The Cornells

Where we've been, what we're doing, and photos of the lot!

Button's Latest Scan

Been a very stressful couple of weeks for us with Button as most of you will know. (Won't be going into that here).
We're back on track now, and the timing couldn't have been better. The best Christmas present we could have asked for :o)
This scan was taken after 15 weeks and 5 days but we've kept it to ourselves until now.

I've created a new photo set on Flickr of Button's progress so far.....:o)

"Button" Scan pic

Here's a pic from Jen's recent scan at 12 weeks and 4 days into the pregnancy. It's probably worth mentioning at this point that the baby has been code named 'Button' from Day 1!!

Scanning Technology

As most people reading this Blog will know, - we've a baby on the way :-) !! (I'll post a 12 week scan pic on here soon).

From speaking to Mam's (and Ganny's!), it's obvious that the normal ultrasound scan technology has advanced massively within the last few years leading to much clearer images. There are also now numerous companies offering a 3D scan, and they provide you with a DVD of the event. I thought they were as impressive as it could get until I came across this article about Animals in the Womb.
Ok I guess some of it sounds obstrusive by implanting camera's etc, and is no doubt something reserved definitely for animals, but some of the images are amazing! The Dolphin staring directly at the camera is my favourite;

ACHOO!!

This is one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time and most people reading this will have probably received it an e-mail from me, but I want to do a test of an embedded video in my blog, so what better candidate than this....

Bit of Practice for Halloween

Online Pumpkin Carving! - A lot easier on the wrists, less mess, and it doesn't stink after a couple of days. Give it a try.

We'll still be doing the real thing though....

They make it sound so easy!

It's got to be more complicated than this surely...?!

New Side Bar Feature.....................................>>

I'm going to provide links to some of the best YouTube's that I've been sent.
There now a list on the right hand side of this page....

100% Geek!

We're trialling BlackBerry's at work and I've had one for about 2 weeks now.
The technology itself is amazing; A device not much wider than a mobile phone which is constantly connected to your e-mail system and more. Real time access to my inbox and calendar as well as a web browser, address book, memo pad and yes before you ask it is also a mobile phone.
I've had to start switching it off on an evening because everytime it vibrates, eventhough it's a work related e-mail, I can't resist having a look!
As a none work related device I can totally see why these things are so popular with all the celebs. Absolute doddle to use and saves carrying a laptop around everywhere!
(Edit: Just noticed that this picture is the actual size of the device on my laptop running 1024x768 display).

Fascinating

It seems like every other e-mail that arrives these days is a YouTube video. Ok, that's not a bad thing but this one really caught my attention. Probably best if you watch it now before reading on; THE VIDEO.

At first I was dubious, thinking "yeah, yeah, it's obviously not the same person in all them locations", but then I visited the website listed at the end of the video; WhereTheHellIsMatt.com.

That'll teach me to be so scheptical! Seeing shots like those in the video in some stunning locations makes it's very easy to understand how people can get the 'travel bug', and never want to stop.

Happy Birthday OAP*

It was my Dad's 60th Birthday On Saturday (14th Oct), so my Mam booked a table at a local Italian Restaurant. Little did they know that his Brother and Sister were also gonna to make a surprise arrival from London and Spain!
It was hard work trying to keep it all quiet (only Jen and I knew), but worth it in the end. Their faces were a picture, - a complete mix of surprise and "how did you get here?!", haha.
A good night was had by all.

My Wife's Still A Teeny Bopper At Heart!

Jen and I had a week off work last week and amongst other things we ended up at a Gary Barlow book signing!!
We were sitting eating our Breakfast last Wednesday morning when it came on the regional news that he was doing a book signing to promote his new autobiography at Kingston Park. Jen, being the massive Take That fan that she is immediately got excited and insisted we go! A quick search of Google Groups and I found out that he was at Tesco.
We arrived to find the queue already out of the door but that wasn't going to deter Jen, or her work colleague Caroline who had now also joined her. After queing for about 50 mins their time in the spotlight came and they had their 20 seconds of fame with Gary! To be fair he seemed really down to earth and spent time chatting and posing for photos with every fan.
I couldn't believe how many middle aged women there were reduced to tears after their kiss! Considering EVERY person in the queue also bought a book to get signed and he was there for nearly 2 hours , they must have shifted a hell of a lot of books!! (I bought an extra one which was signed and is now doing VERY well on eBay!! ;-)

The Stuff of Legends

We went to St James' Park last Sunday (8th Oct) to see Sky One's 'The Match'.

In previous years we've just watched the final on TV but this year we got in early enough to get decent seats.

Although the Celebrities (NOT 'A' listers!), were more skilled this year, so were the Legends. After the first 15 mins it was a pretty dull one sided afair with the Legends having most of the possesion.

There was a good atmosphere and the ground was nearly at capacity, although I have to say the Mexican Wave's god a bit tedious after about the 20th time round!

If this show is repeated again next year I think they'll have to change something because people are getting bored with the predictable end result of a Legends victory.

Another Makeover!

My car has also had a makeover recently following my little accident of last month!

I eventually got the car back this morning fully restored to it's former glory. No it hasn't changed colour or been re-sprayed, it's just the photos were taken by different cameras in different lighting conditions;

Makeover

"Why the new look?" I hear you ask...... Well it's all to do with the recent problems I've had with posting pictures. 'Blogger' is ran by the same people who run Google and they're busy writing a new version which is currently known as 'Beta Blogger'. It ties in with your Gmail account and obviously has increased functionality etc. I've switched across now because when it's finished there will be an option to also merge in your original Blogger blog, - you can still get to mine via the links on the right of this page.
Because my blogs are all via my 'thecornells.co.uk' forwarding address, I've also made the necessary changes to take you straight here. Clear as mud...?!?
(I could have chosen the same template to make it look the same but I fancied a change!).

New Mac Mini arrives

Congratulations to Gerrard (aka Mac / Puckman), and his wife Chizuru on the birth of their new baby......

I don't have any other details as such at the minute but I think this is a proper case of a 'Picture Speaking A Thousand Words'.

Chinese Cats

Here's a pic of our cats doing their best impression of the famous Chinese 'Ying and Yang' symbol.

According to the Wiki definition, LV (on the right) is the masculine brighter Yang symbol. Believe me though - there's nothing bright about him!!

Wedding Anniversary

For our first Wedding Anniversary (3rd September), we went to Glasgow for the weekend to see Robbie Williams in concert at Hampden Park.We travelled up there on the Friday (with the aid of Pinar's sat nav which we borrowed), and arrived early afternoon. We were staying in the Crowne Plaza hotel which was right on the river side next to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC). The Crowne Plaza used to be a Moat House and has been recently refurbished to quite a high standard. There are quite a few similarities between the Glasgow river side and that of Newcastle; The shape of the SECC is basically a cross between the Sage Gateshead and the Sidney Opera House, - there's a link to my Flickr photos at the end of this post. The building is featured weekly in the X-Factor at the minute whenever they show the Glasgow auditions. There is a also a Millenium Bridge although this is pretty boring compared to ours. The area is oviously one of the nicer parts of Glasgow and it looks like they're doing a good job. After a few drinks, a kip and a meal in the hotel we decided to try and bar crawl as much of Glasgow as possible!! It was a really good night although we did end up spending a fortune seeing as we ended up a Casino and our luck was far from in! We had a lazy day on the Saturday, making use of the Hotels leisure club until it was time to head to the concert at about 4pm. By this time a work colleague of mine and her husband had also arrived, - Claire and Mark.A taxi dropped us all off at an area of bars within walking distance of Hampden Park, so we sank a few more before heading the stadium. I have to say it's a very impressive stadium. It's set below ground level, much like Sunderland's Stadium of Light so you don't actually see the stadium until you're right on top of it. Complete opposite to St James's Park which can be seen from miles away! The 2 support acts were Orson followed by Basement Jaxx which were both really good, - then Robbie came on at 8.30. This was my 3rd Robbie Williams concert so I kind of new what to expect and as always he didn't fail to deliver. If you watched the concert on Sky you'll also know he did a couple of songs with his best mate Jonathan Wilks. Concert finished at about 10.30 and then there was the usual mad exodus as 60,000 people all tried to leave the stadium at once to get back home or to their hotel. This really is the worst part about stadium concerts but there's nothing you can do about it so it's best just to go with the flow. As we were walking back through the main car park I spotted the drummer from Orson casually leaning against their tour bus. Jen and Claire got his autograph and had their photos taken with him as well as the 2 guitarists! This really made Jen's night. The autographs were all done on her concert ticket, - hmmm possibly worth anything on eBay?! We managed to find an overpriced taxi to get us back to the hotel but it was better than the 4 mile walk! We waited for 12 o'clock to come so we could see our Anniversary in with a bottle of champagne, then turned in completely wrecked! Breakfast was delivered by room service next morning along with a big bunch of flowers, - am I romantic or what! We then headed home about lunch time, again with the aid of the sat nav!!Quick wash and change then off to Newcastle for a meal at the Azzuri restaurant on the quayside. By this time I was completely sick of lager given that we had been drinking all through the concert, so I drank wine most of the night. This probably wouldn't have been such a bad idea until we ended up at the Pitcher & Piano and decided to drink shooters...Groooannn!! Anyway it was a cracking weekend, but it's a good job they only come round once a year!!
